Xin-Hui Wu — EPJ Web of Conferences · The recent developments in the studies of nuclear cosmochronology are reviewed. Nuclear cosmochronology, which predicts the ages of the stars by comparing the present and initial abundances of longlived radioactive nuclides, provides an independent dating technique for the cosmos. It has been long studied under the assumption of r -process abundance universality for different stars. However, more and more studies indicate that the r -process abundance patterns could be influenced by different astrophysical conditions. Hence, the universality assumption of r -process abundances is inappropriate. Recent studies of nuclear cosmochronology have gone beyond the universality assumption and provided customized r -process initial abundances of radioactive nuclides for each star.
